iPad pro or surface

So recently I've been facing somewhat of a dilemma. My rMBP faced water damage and it's going to cost way to much money then it's worth to fix it. So I'm debating between an iPad pro with the apple pencil or a Microsoft surface for class and note taking. I was wondering what other students experiences have been on them? Thanks guys.
