Changing your name: my parents are divorced and I've just applied to change my last name to my mother's last name

Hi, I'm a bit new here and couldn't find any forums anywhere covering this question. I'm 20, almost 21. My parents divorced officially last year. I don't really talk to my father and haven't for two years and made the decision to change my last name.

I've had a lot of support from my friends about it but a few have seriously questioned my course of action. I was just wondering if any people out there changed their last name to one parents/kept it for one, for any particular reason?

Mine was that I don't really see myself interacting with my father nor do I identify with him much at all.
