Canadian backpacker wanting to visit the holy land

Hey guys! As the title suggests, I'm from Canada and I'm looking to do roughly 2 weeks of backpacking (staying in guest houses, hostels and maybe couchsurfing) in Israel and 2 weeks in Egypt. I have a few questions and would appreciate some answers from people who live here! What's the Israel - Egypt border like? If I land in Cairo and take a bus to Tel-Aviv would I have trouble getting in because I've gotten a visa from Egypt? Also, what can I do to make sure I'm safe on my trip? Everyone is telling me not to go because of the terrorism situation. How bad is it? Where should I steer clear of? I would love to hear what you guys have to say. It would help me out a ton. Also just some reassurance because I really want to see Israel!

P.S I have only visited the US and Japan.
