Does anyone remember what the college P.C. environment was like decades ago? What happened to all the Marxists?

I went to college back in the 90's. I think it's interesting that the bulk of leftist analysis critiqued things from a Marxist/leftist standpoint. Today it seems the college environment is more focused on critiquing things from a race/gender perspective. Don't get me wrong, there were feminists and race theorists back in the 90s (and 80s and 70s too), it's just that they seemed to part of a larger group of leftists that critiqued capitalism.

What happened to all the economic leftists? Liberal discussion these days seem to focus on gender and race issues. Have all the Marxists faded with time?

edit: maybe "PC" the wrong term. I guess I mean liberal college environment.
