In my world, people fall under two classes. On your 19th birthday, a mark appears on your hip. This mark matches exactly one other person's on the planet. If it's on your left hip, you're the master, if it's on your right hip, you're the slave. The marks are totally random. It hasn't been able to be traced by genetics, or patterns. Anyone can be anyone's slave or master. If you don't have a master though, you're free. I was raised by a different kind of couple. My dad was a slave, and my mother his master, but they didn't treat each other as such behind closed doors. They were kind, equals. My dad's dad was a slave, as was his, and hiss, and so on. So all my life my parents trained me. Trained me in how to deal with an abusive master, how to seduce and persuade a gullible one, and how to run. To get away from them as soon as I could and find one of the illegal slave-havens, or come back home. To be free. So, when the clock struck 9 on my 19th birthday, my family was ready to draw out the mark to post around our small village, But when we saw it, there was no need. The mark that appeared was very well known throughout the country. Three small dots in a triangle shape next to a crescent moon. It was the same mark that had appeared on the King's daughter just four months earlier. That had been national news because everyone was shocked that the King's child had a slave mark. Conspiracy theories started to go around that the King had the master killed. But he just hadn't arrived yet. It was me. All my life I'd been trained to be a slave, but now, I was a master. And maybe one of the most high profile one's in history.
