Me [20M] living in a house where my landlord [60M] is allowing a clepto alcoholic to live in house for free at the expense of my roommates.

Non-Romantic

Hey,

Looking for some advise from you guys as to what to do.

Here's the summary:

I am a college student that loves the house I live in. I share a big house with 2 other like minded individuals that share the same interests. It's very relaxed, and to be frank, a great deal. The home owner/land lord is an incredibly gentle and kind man. The only problem is that he is way too charitable to the person I am complaining about.

Here's the events leading up to what prompted me to write this:

I moved in here about ten months ago. At the time it was just me, the problem, and another man that's very nice and is willing to share his expertise in the field I am currently studying. Everything was fine till I started to notice that the problematic tenate had a serious drinking problem. He is constantly drinking. Another college student moved in shortly after I moved in. He left after a few months because all of things were being stolen from the kitchen. I never had an issue with this, other than the kitchen being left a mess, and the alcoholic going into schizophrenic escapades throughout the night. I forgot to mention that on top of alcoholism, he suffers from schizophrenia. At this time I noticed he had some serious mental battles, and I felt sympathy for him. Fast forward to now, after numerous complaints to my land lord, and nightly episodes of this man going into mania, the land lord finally told him he had to move within thirty days. The thirty days past and I was made aware that he is not being evicted, but living here for free till he finds another place. It has been 2 months since this arrangement.

Why I am writing this: My stuff has been stolen for the past four months, from pizza, to money from my wallet in the middle of the night. My parents are tossing me the financial reigns, which I am more than happy about, and it is simply not economical to have to eat out due to this man being complacent to his life style and feeling entitled to my belongings. I really needed to start eating at home, so I decided to give him one last shot. I bought groceries earlier today. I heard him in the kitchen and found him steeling my stuff. This was after I found a bottle of whiskey in the trash, and seeing him smoke cigarettes all day outside. So he has money for booze but not enough for bread and eggs?

I am over it. I hate to put my relationship with my land lord at risk, and the awesome situation I have at this house that allows me to work with my peers late into the evening, but I cannot live here anymore with this man. On top of that, it's completely unfair that I am working my ass off and this dude gets to freeload here.

What I seek advice on: I am considering a few options. I can call my land lord tomorrow and let him know I want this tenate out within the week, or I am gone. I can wait till my land lord asks for rent and then I tell him I am not living here anymore due to the on going problems. Or, I get around the awkward situation and just move out and contact him over the phone for my deposit. How should I present my case to my land lord, in terms of tone in my voice and drawing a hard line?

Thank you.

tl;dr: My land lord allows some freeloading alcoholic to live for free while he continues to steal my stuff and make me pay rent.
