An Idiot's Guide to Seymour Flux - "Yuna Gonna Buff" Edition
Yep... I'm late... ;-;
As compensation, here's 3 facts (more like an opinion and 2 facts) about U Seymour Flux!
-
This is the second FF10 U boss in a row to appear after a humanoid FF5 boss.
-
So far, all two of the FF10 U bosses have an annoying gimmick. Bleh. They both have a 3 fixed attacks in the battle. And both target scores require you to defeat them before they use the third fixed attack.
-
Both U Yunalesca and U Seymour
FucksFlux has the same stressful battle music, Challenge. Still a brilliant masterpiece, though.
That enough compensation? :P
Btw, Edition is brought to you by the Gold medalist for the Maduin Challenge, u/Xinde! 'Grats to him! :D

Target Scores:

-
Afflict Seymour Flux with Poison or Sap
-
Afflict Mortiochis with Slow
Movepool:
Seymour Flux and Mortiochis gets stronger attacks (and a new movepool) at certain points of the battle, depending on the current HP of Seymour Flux.
Seymour Flux - Normal (76-100%):
-
Attack: Deals one physical attack to one target. Same old. Same old.
-
Lance of Atrophy: Deals one physical attack to one target. Seems to do a little bit more damage than the regular attack. Still very weak, though.
Seymour Flux - 75% Interrupt:
- Dispel (Ultimate): Aaaand it's back.... For those who don't know, this is AoE Dispel that gets rid of every buff in the game, including buffs like Wall and HotE. As he's pretty weak in his first phase, I recommend just not using your Wall or mitigation RW/SB during this first phase. I would advise using Protectga, though. He's weak, but entirely physical in this phase.
Seymour Flux - Weak (51-75%)
-
Gravija: Deals heavy proportional damage to all targets, based on current HP. This hurts. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk. (Oh, wrong boss?)
-
Lance of Atrophy: Deals one physical attack to one target. Same as before. Aka, weak sauce.
-
Multi Fira/Blizzara/Thundara/Watera: Deals magical damage twice to one target. Element is based on the name. This will mainly be a constant threat due to Seymour's nasty Gravijas. Be sure to keep your magical mitigation updated at all times.
-
Firaga/Blizzaga/Thundaga/Waterga: Deals heavy magical damage to all targets. Element is based on the name. Your biggest worry is that he uses this right after a Gravija. Keep your HP high at all times.
Seymour Flux - 50% Interrupt
- Dispel (Ultimate): Yes, he uses this again. What a pure unadulterated bullshit move made by DeNA. I hate you too.
Seymour Flux - Very Weak (0-50%)
-
Same moves as his weak form, minus the Ga spells.
-
Reflect: Gives Reflect to self. Won't use if Seymour already has Reflect. You should be familiar to Seymour's Flare+Reflect tactic by now. Like always, Dispelling the Reflect can always give you a nice edge in damage, especially if you're bringing Banishing Strike as a source of damage for one of your knights.
-
Flare: Deals heavy non-elemental magical damage to self. Hurts, but it's overall not too bad. Gravija and Total Annihilation is the main killer here.
-
Dispel (Ultimate): This is similar to Yunalesca's AoE Holy and Beatrix's third Climhazzard; He uses it after a certain amount of turns (which is very, very long). Shouldn't worry about this too much, as you'll either beaten the battle and have died trying long before this is unleashed.
Mortiochis - Seymour Flux is at Normal
-
Cross Cleave: Deals heavy physical damage to all targets. This is going to be the most amount of damage you'll take in his first phase. Still, not too bad.
-
Attack: Deals physical damage to one target. Chance of dealing an additional attack. A meh attack.
-
Mortibsorption: Deals 9999 damage to Seymour Flux, while healing Mortiochis for 9999. He only uses this if you dropped his HP to 0. Bring some nice AoE attacks to exploit this.
Mortiochis - Seymour Flux is not at Normal
-
Same moves as his normal form, only that Attack guarantees an additional attack.
-
Total Annihilation: Deal heavy magical non-elemental damage to all targets. Ouch.
Percentages are rough estimations. Will update once AI is datamined.
Analysis:
What's with FF10 and annoying U bosses with annoying gimmicks? Anyways, the main things here is his 2 U Dispels, Gravija, and Total Annihilation. Besides the annoying U Dispels, this is basically another battle of attrition. Kill before you get killed. You will need some RW timing, though, if you're bringing a mitigation SB, due to his early U Dispel.
Teambuilding
RW selection:
Usual RW selection here. Note that Heroic Harmony bypasses the U Dispels at the cost of less mitigation! Decide whether a Wall or HH will be best for you!
SG=SS2=Heroic Harmony>Hastega>Medicas
Abilites:
Very typical recommended ability suggestions. Any abilities that Slow, Poison, or Sap will be needed to fulfill the Target Scores. Breakdowns or Dances are very important here as most of you will be running a part of the battle without all your mitigation. AoEs can be used to manipulate Mortibsorption. Do note that you can Tauntaliate (Retaliate + Draw Fire) the first Phase as the majority of the attacks are single target physical attacks.
RMs:
Once again, very standard. The only thing I would really say is that RES reducing RWs are discouraged due to Seymour's occasional Ra/Ga splurges.
Remember to remove your "ability spring" RMs (Concentration, Moon's Grace etc.). They literally do nothing in battles with one level besides wasting a RM slot on your characters.
Recommended Team:
Any team (besides Advantaliate, due to the 2 U Dispels) can work here. Most people nowadays, however, will prefer a physical team. Consider bringing a second White Mage! This is due to Gravija's heavy damage.
Basic Battle Strategies:
I would recommend bringing Dances (Breakdowns will work, too, but lacks the AoE convenience) for this battle. In the beginning, I would hold off from using my buffing SB/RW since he's pretty weak during the first phase (think U Maduin's physical stages). Once he uses his first U Dispel, I'd unleash my SBs and start mauling him to death. After the first U Dispel, it's essentially a battle of attrition; he has massively damaging attacks and you (should) as well. Just don't forget to reapply buffs after the second U Dispel!
Good luck! がんばろう!
Final Thoughts:
JP players infamously had trouble with this battle, mainly due to Seymour Flux's massive damage potential (cough Gravija cough) and his double U Dispels. Just bring enough mitigation to survive the first phase and just spam everything on the second. You should have built up your SB gauges by the time he uses his second U Dispel.
Thanks to the Discord Chat (/u/sorryidontexist, u/KnoxZone, u/CornCaramel, and u/theSFaction) for proofreading the guide!
