Did the CA-87 Get Broken? Inconsistent after Patch

I was getting pretty consistent kills from a decent range before the patch. Now it seems wildly inconsistent. Point blank CA-87 blasts requiring 2 shots. Other longer range blasts killing one hit. What is going on here? The inconsistency made it unusable yesterday. Usually It dominated the close engagements in hallways but yesterday if it somehow didn't kill on the first shot: it lost every time to DL-44 and the DH-17. I am aware it has bullet spread that is somewhat RNG but man I recall it doing better than this. Or has my Destiny vacation until the update came last too long?
