Do you think anime's popularity in the US has had a detrimental effect on East Asian-white relations?

Personally, I think that it has done more harm than good for East Asians, especially for Japanese people. True, more Americans are now consuming Asian media and know more about Japanese culture, but often this consumption is limited purely to anime and people's knowledge of Japanese culture gets skewed by this limited viewpoint.

Anime has also created a large block of viewers that are young white men who fetishize East Asian girls, usually girls in the age range of 13-16. Or look 14 but are actually robots, or immortal elves, or whatever. There are also more white people who are fascinated with their own exoticized version of Japanese culture (weeaboos, basically)

From my point of view, anime has simply been consumed by white people and doesn't really make them think critically about Japan or their relationship with foreign cultures, and it's served as a gateway for so many pedophiles and fetishizers that overall it has done more harm than good.

Anyone else have different viewpoints?
