Fry's (grocery store) club credit card as first credit card?

I'm considering getting a club credit card at the grocery store I shop at, as it would give me fairly sizeable discounts on most food items at Fry's and points toward cheaper gas. I'd only use it on groceries and gas.

Would I be better off applying for a different, more standard first-time credit card? I haven't been able to find much on how comparable grocery store cards are to other cards in my research, so what would you guys recommend?
