Refused Spinal Fusion Surgery -CIGNA
My father was recently refused two weeks before surgery. He was told that the surgery is not necessary, and considered "experimental". The surgeon is trying to appeal, but told my father they never won an appeal with CIGNA.
I have seen on some forums where people have had this surgery approved by this insurance company, and I am wondering what has to be done to get my father approved for this surgery.
He has herniated disks, a shattered disk, and some bone spurs. He also has spinal stenosis. He has done pain medication and steroid injections (which he no longer gets relief with). I believe he has said that his doctors told him physical therapy will not help him. The doctors he has spoken to all tell him he needs this surgery.
At this point, I am worried my father might take his life without this surgery due to the amount of pain he is going through. After being told that insurance will not cover, he has put in a notice to work to "weigh his options".
I am desperately seeking information that will help me get his surgery approved, and I hope this type of post is allowed here. Thank-you for your time.
