New to competitive Pokemon, making a VGC team, way overwhelmed.

Hello residents of Stunfisk! With so much terminology, hidden abilities, IV's and EV's, natures, egg moves, and a lot more I am in way over my head. I can IV and EV breed only to a basic extent, but everything else goes over my head. People mention breeding pokemon so they have a certain ball, IV's for hidden moves, whether it needs to be male or female, and I'm sure a lot more. All of this is leading to a sense of being overwhelmed and I just don't know how to go about it anymore.

Since this is the first team I am going for I figured it would be beneficial to go with something standard and strong to feel around with and learn. The first pokemon I'm trying to breed is Gengar, and as you saw in the link I want the hidden move ice. I'm just straight up confused and don't know if what I have been doing is right or wrong and would just like some direction.

P.S I already have a 6IV Shiny level 100 Ditto to breed with (can't recall nature of the top of my head).
