Evil netgear router killed my internet connection

Hi,

I live in a dorm and therefore we are lot of people sharing the same network. Today one of my friends, who live in another part of the dorm, came by to check if his router worked. He couldn't connect to the internet in his part of the building so he had to bring his computer to my room all the time if he wanted to use the internet. We tried to connect his router to my cable. Still no internet. When we plugged my router back in, the internet connection was gone. I am connect to the network/router but there is no internet connection.

Knowing that there is an unused cable for a router in our basement we decided to try to see if the router was indeed pure evil. Plug in aerohiverouter(my router) -> internet connection Plug straight to computer -> internet connection Plug in netgear router -> no internet connection Plug in aerohive router -> no internet connection Plug in computer -> no internet connection

I have no idea what is going on: Basic information I thought might be useful(I'm no computer genius in anyway). I can't acquire an IP address . Not by cmd anyway (ipconfig routine) I have no physical access to the "main" internet switch. It is locked in the basement of the dorm.

My conclusion is that the netgear router is pure evil and kills everything that it is connedted to. Can anyone help me? My only ideas for fixing it have all involved strings of garlic, throwing it in a vulcano or piercing it with an arrow made of pure silver. Best regards
