Easier way to convert demesne religion?

I'm playing the king of Sicily and I have the island as my demesne. The problem is that my capital has been Zikri since I conquered it over 40 years ago. My chaplain has been useless despite being there proselytizing from day 1. Is there a better way of doing this?
