[Event/Plot] The Game Begins
A letter arrives at Storm’s End; sealed with the insignia of the Citadel
Lord Renly Baratheon, Lord Paramount of the Stormlands,
Attached, you will find documents of great importance pertaining to a particular hold within your realm. They were only recently uncovered after a young acolyte sifted through a great number of materials requiring categorization in the Archives.
They pertain to one Martyn Storm, the purported bastard child of Lady Genna Morrigen nee Dondarrion and the late Ser Martyn Morrigen. According to previous records, Genna Dondarrion had not married until her union with the late Ser Richard Morrigen in the year of ___ AC. Martyn informed us that he was born in the second month of 283 AC, after his father had already passed in the Storm’s End Wedding Tourney of 282 AC. Lady Genna and Ser Martyn (henceforth referred to as ‘The Elder’) had not married.
A document long since in our - unknowing - possession, and attached with this letter, suggests otherwise. It is a Contract of Marital Union, signed by one Septon Heramore of the Crow’s Nest Sept. The signatories named are ‘Lady Genna Dondarrion’ and ‘Ser Martyn Morrigen’, with a witness penned as ‘Ser Arlorn Morrigen’. The document is dated in the eighth month of 280 AC.
Martyn Storm (henceforth referred to as “The Younger”) informs us that the Crow’s Nest Sept, along with Septon Heramore, burned in late 282 AC, and as such any Sept records would have been lost. However, this copy sent to the Citadel serves as proof that the legally binding union did exist - even if in secret.
As Lady Genna Dondarrion and Ser Martyn Morrigen the Elder were married in 280 AC, this would then infer that the boy born in the second month of 282 AC was not - in fact - Martyn Storm. He is not a bastard born out of wedlock, but the trueborn son and heir of Martyn Morrigen the Elder, grandson of Lord Torrance Morrigen before him.
Martyn Morrigen the Younger, as such, has not taken his oath to the Citadel - and shall return to rule Crow’s Nest as its rightful Lord. Any action by Matthos Morrigen to seize the seat should be considered usurpation, and deserves any punishment your Lordship sees fit.
Sincerely,
Maester Astinus, Keeper of the Citadel Archives
