[Help] I have to return my dog to the Pound

Hey so I recently adopted a dog (first time dog owner) and I was attempting to crate train him. Unfortunately every time I left him for work in the crate he barked and whined for a good 30 minutes. I figured this was relatively normal but as soon as I left my neighbors complained about the noise. I've gotten 3 noise complaints and the housing office is getting really upset with me, threatening fines and maybe even eviction if it continues.

I've tried to give him anti-anxiety meds I got from the vet but I got another complaint yesterday. Im probably going to go in to the shelter tomorrow and return him (they have a 30 day return policy).

I'm just really sad it has to come to this and I was just wondering if anyone has gone through experiences like this before. I was really becoming attached to him and I'm not sure how to go through with returning him back to the pound after these past couple of weeks. I don't really know what the point of this post is, but I just really wanted to share my grief with someone.
