How about Character class/gender/skill specific cutscenes for ME:A?
If there's one thing that always bugged me about Shepard in Mass Effect, is that the gender/class/background/skillset never had any notable impact in cutscenes.
And the same could be said for squadmates.
And I don't mean the occasional reference or a line of dialogue about it.
Almost every cutscene played out in identical fashion regardless of who Shepard was or who was on his team, even though in-game cutscenes could fairly easily be scripted to be different. It's not like we're talking about full CGI here.
I'd like to see some scenes play out notably differently depending on the characters uniqueness.
For example, if the main character is a strong biotic, he should have the option to use biotics in a cutscene, either automatically, or by a conversation or mouse click prompt.
I was just playing ME3 and finishing up the Grissom Academy mission where Jack breaks the glass with her biotics to save a student, while Shepard tries to beat down what is probably bulletproof glass, with the butt of his rifle.
If Shepard were a soldier, that would be more or less okay, but I was playing a powerful adept who didn't even have a rifle equipped. I'd have liked Shepard to use biotics like Jack - heck, you don't even have to remove Jack from the scene or anything - just have her say "Hey Shepard, give me a hand" and they combine their biotics to break the glass.
Another example - An engineer class with Cryo skills could have used that on the glass first.
Lots of options.
I know this would add a fair bit of development time to the game, but they could implement it for main quests at least. Otherwise the protagonist or squadmates can seem totally out of character.
This concept has been used a lot in RPG's over the years where different party compositions change the outcomes of various encounters based on individual characteristics.
I think it's high time that Cinematic Storytelling took that into consideration as well. So far we've had characters portray their uniqueness almost purely through dialogue, but it could be so much better. And if you think about it, development time wouldn't necessarily increase that much if some scenes could be toned down in dialogue and instead have companion/class specific animations.
I really don't want to see my Shepard who's been rocking powerful biotics with nothing but a pistol for back-up, suddenly conjure up an automatic rifle and use that in the cut-scene. A goof to begin with but also totally out of character.
I also don't want to see companions like a Krogan get knocked out the same way an Asari or a Human. I'd want the Krogan character to laugh and say "Lost your balance, you mammals?"
Bioware please.
