Very network speeds whilst Windows is downloading updates

So this morning my entire network slowed to a crawl, with no computers being able to access the internet although the modem claimed to have a connection. The culprit of this turned out to be my own computer, which was downloading a windows insider build at 9Mbps, taking up my entire bandwidth. It even did this whilst I was attempting to access the internet on the same computer! (it would report about 0.5Mbps using speedtest).

I assume that this is not the intended behaviour (Perhaps an oversight, considering the re-working of the update system in W10), and is there anything from a user-side perspective that I can do?
