Long term hostels?

Hi Vancouver Redditors! I'm moving to Vancouver for a couple of months in April (up to Whistler late-summer for the winter season). Am figuring out somewhere to stay which is either a hostel room or AirBNB - hostel preferred as a way to meet people.

However - there don't seem to be many decent hostels around? A few friends have recommended American Backpackers but they have hugely mixed reviews... Would love any pointers, thanks!
