Anything I can do to prevent a possible identity theft?

I had my w2's sent to me twice and didn't retrieve them. Worse case scenario, someone has my personal info, social security all that good stuff. What actions can I take to make sure I can keep myself, and finances safe in the unfortunate event that someone decides to use my info?
