WISG - Strategy, Bluffing, Creativity. Like Resistance, Netrunner.
Hello there! First time posting. Forgive any sillyness and/or rambling and also english is not my native language.
I'm looking to expand my board game collection now that i) I finally have set a group of people to play board games with and ii) I realized board games don't compete with computer games - they can complement each other!
I'm kind of picky about the games I like but I'm willing to try something that sounds interesting. Usually I play either with my SO (he plays with me because he loves me, not because he's super into it) or my friends (~5,6).
Likes: The Resistance is an all-time favorite (I have the Avalon version). I love everything about it except the fact that sometimes when I play it the same people are randomly assigned the same roles over and over and they get a bit frustrated. I really like the absence of player elimination, existence of multiple roles, the negotiation and the bluffing.
I went searching for similar games with bluffing, hidden roles, deduction that are also longer than 30 minutes but I haven't felt that excited about any one specific. I own Citadels and it's a great success with my group and I also own Coup and Love Letter [Adventure Time version], which are both very cool but more like an appetizer than a main course. (I'm thinking of getting the Coup Expansion].
Following some articles I went investigating Mascarades, Race for the Galaxy, BattleStar Galactica, Libertalia, Dead of Winter and Antidote and wasn't crazy about them. Numbers and memory don't usually click with me, nor does just 1 vs all, neither does luck or not knowing what your role is. Or maybe the playthroughs I saw were just boring? /:
I also own Mage Knight (because it looked so cool and had a bit of deck building and RPG which I like). I found it very interesting but too troublesome/time consuming for the actual fun I/we get out of playing it. Setting the board takes forever and the rules (combat and group combat in particular) are a bit too much. Very cool mechanics, tho.
I'm also a big Android: Netrunner geek. Love the flavor, love the game mechanics and basically everything else about it. Sci-fi, asymmetrical game play and bluffing are a big plus.
Right now I'm considering getting Cosmic Encounter (sounds wild and smart!) or maybe dive into something more cooperative to change things a bit. I've also been excited about T.I.M.E stories but the cost/lack of replay value scares me. I was also curious about Seasons, but - like Mage Knight - I'm scared it will be a yet another overly complicated game for my friends/SO.
I'm not into euro games, games which are too mechanical or luck based. I like strategy, mind games and games that are smart and creative.
Sorry if this is a bit too random and for the long post. I really would enjoy some advice. Thank you!
