Looking to learn how to play DnD.

Hey gaymers!

Long story short ever since a teenager I wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons but sadly in my hometown(island) there wasn't a huge lot of people playing it. However, now that I have recently moved to the US (NoVa Area) I have started to get idea of playing DnD, since it is way more popular in here.

The problem is all the groups I have seen publishing in Meetup.com and Roll20 are geared torwards people who know how to play the game.

Are there any specific websites for players who are ok with playing with a newbie? Any tips for someone who wants to learn how to play the game? In theory I know how tabletop RPG's work.

Is there anything specific I should buy? A certain guidebook, set or etc? Should I just watch Youtube videos or read a blog?
