[calculus 1] inverse functions

to find the inverse of a function you switch the x and y, then solve for y.

for the problem y = 2x + cos(y)

my notes says we cannot use that method to solve for it, as we'd need a higher math to solve for.

what level math is that?

(it shows us how to use a calculus 1 method to do it, but i was just wondeing)
