For a new player, which is the better choice?

Learning tech skill before mind game, or mind game before tech skill?

Learning tech skill first can allow a player to pick up certain mechanics of the game quicker and give the player a vast variety of tech options, but may not allow them to know what to use and when to use learned skill.

Learning the mind-game first can allow the player to control the game on a mental basis with sharp reads and nice reactions, but the player could also be limited in their punishes by the little tech the know.

I'm sure it's not always one way or the other and that I'm missing out on a lot of stuff, but I have always been interested in how new players approach to the game.

How did you learn? What do you think is optimal?
