Theory on how Iron Mans new armor works...
WARNING: all of the following things said is just speculation. Also, long read.
Tony Stark has had many technological sucesses (as much as failures) under his sleeve. He's been a successful former arms deal, genius scientist, charismatic inventor, etc. But his greatest, perhaps his crowning jewel of inventions has to be the Iron Man armor. Since 2008, Tony has added upgrades to an already perfect suit. Some good (Minnie missiles in the Avengers) and some bad (cheap metal in Iron Man 3). Each suit has evolved, with having its own unique design and abilities.
One suit has remained in the dark for quite some time now: the suit we have seen in the trailer, Super Bowl spot, and promotional material for Captain America Civil War. Due to its Bleeding Edge like design, many have speculated that it would be a direct copy of it.
I believe, however, that the new suit is of nano bot technology. Completly forming almost seemingly out of thin are. Sounds like the Bleeding Edge suit then, right? Well, no. I believe that if it is indeed nano technology, it needs a template to form on. That's what I believe all of the silver parts on Tonys new armor is: just a template for the nano bots to form onto. This would explain Tony having to pull back the silver part on his "watch iron glove", then the nano bots come on to harden the glove even further.
I also believe the mini arc reactors not only serve as extra source for the suit (similar to the Hulkbuster suit), but I also believe it serves as markers for the nano bots to go to (for example: if they weren't there, than the nano bots wouldn't know where to stick to).
The exposed parts of the armor (the silver parts) could be for what are giving Bucky and Cap the upper hand in the three way fight they have with Tony. The exposed parts (from what I could remember) are some parts of the shoulder area, small opening in the neck and face, legs area, ribcage area, and most importantly the area around the arc reactor. This could serve as the ultimate weakspot for Tony and Bucky might have the ability to tear it out....
And that's my theory! Sorry if it was a little long for you guys to read.
