Laptop bang/buck ratio: what the hell, man?
My old laptop is slowly dying so I did some quick checking around on replacements, and I'm a little shocked at what I'm seeing. I got my current laptop in late 2011; it has a Core i7 2630QM, 4 GB ram, GeForce 540M, and 500 GB hard drive. Nothing spectacular, but I bought it new for just over $400.
Now I look at laptops and I'm hard pressed to find something equivalent for anywhere near the price. I know I got a good deal on this machine, but even accounting for that and the fact that the Canadian dollar is in the shitter right now, it seems weird that I'd have to spend significantly more and still take a downgrade in at least one category to replace it. Has the laptop market really stagnated that much, or did I just get a once-in-a-lifetime deal on this thing?
