On trade and international economics
I can't help but hear vestiges of Herbert Hoover and Smoot-Hawley in Trump's stated approach to international trade (ie massive expansion of tariffs on imported goods, higher visa fees, etc.). Quite frankly, Mr. Trump's international economic objectives are inconsistent with almost every international trade organization and treaty of which the United States is a part and I personally feel that Mr. Trump's trade plans would be economically disastrous for the country.
I guess my question more an attempt to assuage my concerns about protectionism, so how do his stated objectives translate to long-term strength and growth, when history has shown otherwise? Moreover, does he have a plan to reduce the tax and regulatory burden on small to medium businesses?
