Heterosexual female school librarian here, I am currently applying for a grant to support LGBTQIA student and would appreciate some help/recommendations!

The grant I am applying for would give me money to get materials to support LGBTQIA students to several high school libraries somewhere in New England. (Sorry, I don't want to disclose my location)

The materials would come in 'kits' that would include bookmarks with QR codes for electronic resources, information, safe numbers and hotlines (for students).

There would also be materials on library programs, safe space stickers/signs, tips on how to promote a supportive school climate, and a booklist of books not included in the kit, but strongly recommended if the library want to continue to build LGBTQIA resources (for the librarian).

And the biggest part of the kit, books! (well basically any print material, even magazines!)

Here is where I would like some help, I am not sure what books to include. I have a few online lists of reviews but wanted to ask for recommendations from people as well. It is more helpful for me personally to hear people passionate about a specific book to talk about how it helped them or how good it was.

I was hoping for a mix of nonfiction and fiction. Graphic novels, reference, comics, biographies, and anthologies are all welcome! And everything else! Books on prophylactic protection, gender identity, general LGBTQIA issues/topics, sex, love, relationships, I want to put as much helpful information as I can in the kit with the budget, but also have fun novels and steamy romantic love stories.

Does anyone have book recommendations you felt really helped you? Or an engrossing romance book you just loved that was, for once, not about a heterosexual couple?

Was there a safe resource, or place in your high school? What did you find worked best as a safe place? Do you think the library would make a good safe place?

Is there a website, ebook, or other source of information you love and wished you had found it earlier?

Are there books you would recommend for any student on how to be an LGBTQIA ally?

Are there other resources you feel should be included in the kits for schools that I am forgetting about?

It was suggested to me to order doubles of some books and have one copy be 'unprocessed' that can be taken out on the 'honor's system'. So students can discreetly take the book without checking it out to get information without fear of of being outed. In your opinion, would you think this would be a good use of resources?

I am sorry if this is out of line and does not belong here! Just let me know and I will delete it ASAP. If the post can stay, I greatly appreciate everyone's help! The only personal experience I had in high school with LGBTQIA topics was being an ally to friends. So to be as effective as possible in promoting change, I am going to need some input and guidance from people. Lastly, if I miss used any terms in my post, or could have worded something better/more respectfully, please correct me.

EDIT: Thank you everyone, I really mean it. I am just so happy everyone is so helpful! I'm also excited to start reading these recommendations. The schools are assessed on what is needed for that specific school. Since I am tailoring the material, it is possible that all or almost all the books recommended here would be given. :)
