Adopted and found my family (on Facebook and whitepages) but I'm nervous to reach out

I was adopted and did the ancestry.com test mostly because I was curious about my heritage (turns out I'm mostly British). However, it also connected me with my great-aunt who is very active on the site and based on the tree that she had created, I was able to find names of family members in obituaries and find most of that side of my family on Facebook or though the whitepages. I messaged my great-aunt on ancestry, and she's signed into the site since then, but she either didn't see it or decided not to respond. I'm considering reaching out to family members on Facebook, but I'm nervous. Has anyone had any experience doing this?
