Me [25F] with my famous friend/interest [32M] - I'm confused and this feels surreal
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. It's going to be SO long because of how odd the situation is, and how many background details are necessary to properly explain the situation. I'd really appreciate any advice or thoughts you have on it if you've got the time!
I'm an 25f American living in Asia for 5 years now. I love it here, have a lot of friends, and am genuinely considering staying here indefinitely.
My main job is teaching, but my best friend and I have been starting our own business working with musicians and some actors/models. We mainly help with lyrics, translation, and occasionally teaching. The goal is to make this our main career in the future, but it's hard to get visas etc. She and I live together and are ridiculously close. Let's call her Hannah [26f].
Last summer we inadvertently became very close with one of the top pop bands in the country. Our business friends introduced us, but we ended up not pursuing anything professional with them, and instead became good friends (especially with one member, who we meet up with weekly and travel with). I'll call that friend Mia [31f]. This will be relevant later.
I've been chronically single my entire life. I dealt with health problems up until I was about 22, and never had much energy or drive to date. I find guys in the country I live in now to be very attractive, and have gone on a lot of dates and meetups, but never found one who jived with my personality. I'm a very straightforward, introverted but outgoing person, who appreciates humor and honesty, and isn't so into going out and partying. I'm pretty content being picky when it comes to dating. I don't want a fling or something that my heart isn't 100% in. I'm a pretty hardheaded girl, and also really want someone who can speak English primarily with me.
Hannah and I love music - both personally and for our jobs, and we often spend a lot of time checking out new musicians/genres on youtube when we're bored. Her boyfriend is actually a musician, and they're quite happy and adorable together. While watching videos, I clicked on something related and she and I both went silent when the singer came on screen. It was like someone had taken everything I like in a guy (physically/body language) and created one to fit all of it. My friend knew it immediately and teased me a bit while I stared. He also sang in amazingly in English. She jokingly said, “that’s the guy, isn’t it?” to which I nodded and tried to piece my brain back together.
I couldn't get the guy out of my head for weeks, but knew it was a ridiculous notion that I could meet him for anything other than business. Hannah convinced me to at least give that a shot. The band is quite famous (think between 2 and 10 million views on most music videos, international tours, and a lot of tv appearances), so I figured they already had someone doing English work for them, and I don't like the idea of mixing personal interest and work. That said, the damage was done - he was perfect and I wanted to prove to myself that I was wrong. On top of that, he seemed (by accounts from friends in the industry), to be an absolute sweetheart and an introvert to boot.
Hannah and I happened to see his band perform at a big festival our clients were also in last summer. I felt like a teenage fangirl. He made my heart stop. We jokingly told our friend Mia about it, and she said she was friends with one of his band's members and would see what she could do! I was mortified but excited. Coming from one of the most famous musicians in the country, an introduction to them would be perfect.
Mia was pretty busy with touring etc, but at the end of last year another friend who we do lyrics for invited me and Hannah to a huge NYs music festival. He winked and said that that guy I'm always drooling over would be there, and gave us all access passes. I doubted I'd get a chance to talk to him, but happily accepted and had a blast.
Towards the end of the night, we went to the artists' area to meet up with some friends/people we'd worked with, and I saw him there immediately. Being some of the only foreigners in the industry, and the only blonde person in the room, everyone was looking at us. It was impossible to keep a low profile and he noticed right away.
After working up the courage, I figured I'd at least introduce myself and give him my card. After all, he made the occasional English mistake in his lyrics, and that was my job! When I approached him and started talking, I couldn't believe how much fun I had. He was witty, intelligent, and able to banter better than any guy I've met whose second language is English. He didn't need any English help, he said, so that possibility was off the table. I was disappointed, but could appreciate that he wanted to do his lyrics by himself.
What got my guard up, however, was that he was a bit flirty. I'm not looking for guys who are playboyish, and a lot of musicians I know are like that, so I figured that was that. I was a little disappointed, but honestly happy to have found something imperfect about him so that I could move on from my silly crush.
One month ago, Mia contacts me with a surprise. She went out of her way to get in contact with him and not only did he remember me and Hannah, but wanted to chat and possibly meet up for dinner! He was worried about his English abilities slipping. I nearly had a heart attack. While a bit tipsy one night, I made the cliche mistake of texting him outside of our group conversation. We chatted for hours and I was happily surprised to find that he wasn't actually trying to flirt heavily with me or anything - he seemed like an introvert who made up for his shyness by putting up a cool front (something I quite identify with).
We've been chatting almost daily for the past month, and he ticks every single one of my boxes for what I look for in a guy. It honestly scares me a bit and feels like something out of a teenage tv drama. He has his faults, of course, but they're the kind of faults that don't bother me much, and I've had so much fun talking with him about everything from movies and cats to cultural differences and personal anecdotes.
Here's where I need your advice, Reddit: What is his aim? I know he wants to work on his English (we've talked about that a lot, and I help him with small errors etc), and he also wants friends and enjoys chatting. He's occasionally flirty, as am I, so I think he might actually be interested. I always like to think that things like "leagues" are bullshit, but the insecure part of me can't help but think he's too good for me. I've done some modeling, but I have my faults like everyone and have never dated/done much sexually.
He's busy with a new release at the moment, and has been working pretty much every day since the start of the month. Unlike a lot of the musicians I know and work with, he doesn't like going to the parties or social events, and tries to avoid them and go home to unwind. I get the sense he's just as (if not more) socially introverted than I am. I love introverts, but they're quite hard to get to know, especially when they're busy. He's invited me out when he finds the time, but I have a feeling it'll be another month before we're able to meet up in person. We've also talked about Skyping to chat, but he seems pretty burnt out and in addition to being guarded about the entire situation, I don't want to push it.
On a whim, I asked what he was up to the other night and immediately received a photo of him and his dad at the movies. He really wanted to talk and skype, but wouldn't be home until well after midnight, so we just messaged a couple hours while he was on his way home. Since he'd mentioned wanting to talk, I finally got up the nerve to ask him flat out if he had any evenings free next week. Since he didn't reply in the evening, I figured I'd drop the topic for now. He almost never messages me before his work is done at night, but this morning I got a friendly "good morning" message, though he didn't address his schedule.
So, /relationships/, what is going on in his head? I hate texting so much, and just want to talk with him face to face and get to know him better... Being as busy as he is, which I've confirmed by looking at his band's Twitter a few times, I don't know when we'll be able to meet up. He seems to genuinely want to, and the people I know who know him said he almost never talks to anyone outside of his coworkers. Should I just keep texting and wait for him to suggest meeting up, or am I being a brainless fangirl? I know how silly the whole situation sounds. He’s a literal rockstar and I’m just a foreign girl far away from home. Hannah and Mia are both cheering me on, but I'm lost and chronically skeptical about people being interested in me. Please don’t hesitate to throw some harsh advice my way if you think it’s needed.
(and thank you if you've managed to stay with me until this point!)
tl;dr: smitten with a musician I've become casual friends with. He's too famous for me to delude myself thinking this could work out, but I can't help wanting to see where this goes. Am I being naive?

EDIT: thanks for all of the advice, everyone! I just wanted to say that I'm not getting involved with anyone in the kpop industry, so I can steer clear of all the baggage that comes with that, thank god. Fan girls would still be a potential problem, but nothing like that. I appreciate your concern, though!
EDIT 2: Well, turns out he's just incredibly shy about speaking English and is worried he won't be nearly as good as he was when he grew up overseas. We're gonna meet up soon! Thanks again, everyone, for helping me stop worrying so much and decide to just go for it. I needed the nudge.
