Wood Identification... Sorry for the bother

i hate to be "that guy", but I've got some wood I swiped from a firewood pile that I can't figure out. When it was wet(rain wet, not green wet) it was very dark brown and looked similar to walnut. Now that it has dried, this is clearly not the case, but I can't figure out what it is. Can I get some opinions? Thanks!!

Edit: in person, it is more "red" than brown, similar to a darker version of red beech
