Vocal tips?

Hey so I'm really not comfortable singing but for the last 4 years making music has become the thing I love doing most so I'd like to be able to be comfortable doing my own vocals. I'm conflicted on how to proceed from here because it seems to me that how good someones vocals are is very subjective. For example most of my favorite vocalists aren't necessarily technical vocalists. I listen to a lot of punk & rock & all their respective subgenres (& hip hop, jazz, reggae, etc. but I'd be more interested in doing vocals that sound more in the vein of rock/punk). So I'm not sure whether I should seek out lessons, or just watch a few videos & just go for it. So yea I'm kinda lost, any help is appreciated(:
