Australian PayTV Subscribers. It seems there will be picture in picture ads again this year for the Australian F1 Grand Prix.
I've been tweeting Foxtel, Foxtel help and the Fox Motorsport Twitter pages to try and find out if this was the case again this year. It seems it is, after taking ages to get a response from someone.
It's great that we get the F1 coverage in proper HD and all the pre show and practice etc, and I'm thankful it's no longer with CH10. But the Foxtel promos have been saying 'uninterrupted coverage from lights out.' However (this is my opinion) I feel that that is complete BS. The screen gets interrupted by an ad putting the action on half the screen and cuts the sound.
I know it's only the Melbourne race, but it still grinds my gears if you know what I mean.
I accepted it last year. Because it was reasonable considering how soon before the season started when Foxtel got the rights that this deal had to be done for 2015 because of CH10, and all the flak they copped afterwards for it, but it's no excuse a year later. Because anyone with Foxtel won't watch it on CH10 anyway so it's a moot point that the advertisers aren't happy to advertise on CH10 if Foxtel doesn't have ads. I would stream it direct and pay for it too to support the product, but it is quite difficult to set up and it still wouldn't be 'legal'.
I suggest Foxtel subscribers complain. Don't be rude and don't abuse, but complain. Hit them on social media and after the race is over ring them and complain. Tell them that that was advertised as uninterrupted. But the screen was. I complained about the PIP ads after Bathurst was over and they waived a month fees. If they don't get the constructive feedback and their hip pockets don't get hurt they won't change.
I do hope that I'm wrong on this for this year and the person who replied was misinformed but I don't think I am.
Sorry for the rant. Just gets my goat.
Edit: forgot my picture.
Second edit: half screen ad upon seeing an old pic.
