I added up the total cost of owning a 1000 dollar beater for the past 3 years, since I'm selling it this week.

Pretty rough numbers, but I checked receipts whenever possible. I've only been using Mint for a year, and that's where I got the average gas cost. The selling price is what I hope to get, but it hasn't sold yet. The cost of 6 or so weekends that were lost to repair jobs are not calculated. The cost of missing work due to car breakdown isn't calculated, because I never relied on it to get to work (except one month when my arm was broken). I'm interested in anyone else's calculations if you have them handy.
