Changing from Oil & Gas/Petrochemical Industry to Semiconductor/Manufacturing

[MECHANICAL]

Hello r/engineering.

I was working in MNC O&G Company (upstream division), however last month I was transferred to another Engineering unit within the company to oversee and provide technical assistance for both upstream and downstream.

I was on a trip to Tokyo last few weeks and I was really impressed with their technology and also the efficiency, and it got me thinking that I might be interested in switching my career from O&G/PC to manufacturing or semicond.

Is this a good career move? With current drop in oil price I am forced to find a new career path, however I love being in O&G/PC and it is not just about the money.

My career path so far:

3 Months : Car Manufacturing Plant

1.5 Years : Building Maintenance, O&M

3.0 Years : Oil & Gas (Upstream), EPCIC/EPCC of offshore facilities

2 months (counting) : Oil & Gas (Downstream/Upstream), Technical Services and Consultancy to subsidiary plants, refineries, and offshore facilities.

Thanks a bunch!
