Mining Tips
Thought I would post some tips regarding what I do when getting ready to mine in Blockheads to spend my time more wisely. Mining can be kind of tedious, but it's pretty important as most things (especially once you have been playing for a long time) need to be crafted from materials that you mine.
The types of material you can mine for include the following: copper ore, tin ore, iron ore, gold ore, titanium ore, coal, clay, limestone, marble, oil, and flint. These are all found within dirt or (mostly) stone.
Tools: Flint is probably one of the first things you get as that is what lets you make the tool bench and then your first tools. But once you have a pickaxe, you should immediately pick out some stone and use that to make your tools. Flint is pretty useless after that stage so you'll want to use either stone, tin, iron, or steel for your tools.
Preparation: This is what I do when I'm about to send a blockhead out mining. You want to keep as much space in your inventory as possible for collecting material so only take what you really need.
So first I take about 50 sticks and a tool bench along with my pickaxe so that I don't have to worry about running out of pickaxes. You can just use stone to make them since you'll never run out of it.
Something else I take is some wooden chests so I can carry more with me. It can get kind of confusing and tedious to look through chests if you're keeping different things inside so you don't have to go crazy.
Next, I take a bed so that the blockhead doesn't take as long to regain energy. If you're planning to take food* with you, you can also kill two birds with one stone by bringing coffee cherries; these feed your blockhead and also restore their energy at the same time.
*Note: I actually don't bring much food with me because I have the sunrise hat of fullness (when a blockhead wears this hat, they do not need to eat). I also bring the sunset skirt of happiness (blockhead is always happy). These items are obtained if you go around the world, but you can still manage without them.
Now recently, I have started bringing about 10 pieces of food with me because I realized that, if you get injured, eating is the only way to heal your blockhead (even if they have the sunrise hat) and I had to go back for food once in the past. You can get injured from cave trolls, heat (from the centre of the world), and from drowning in underwater caves.
Finally, I bring a whole bunch of either torches or lanterns (lanterns of course being the better choice if you can make them) to light the way.
Crafting Tip: Something fairly new that's been added to the game is that more iron can be collected from iron ingots. Usually, it takes 3 iron ore to make 1 iron ingot using a furnace. However, if you have an electric furnace, you can use 1 crushed limestone and 1 iron ore to make 1 iron ingot, essentially using less iron ore to make iron ingots.
First, you need to find some limestone within a mountain. It's usually a little deeper and harder to find than other materials. Then, you would turn the limestone into crushed limestone using a press. Then you would take the crushed limestone and iron ore to make pig iron, using the electric furnace. Finally, the pig iron is turned into iron ingots (1:1), also using the electric furnace.
