Do people hate bikes?

I know close calls happen all the time mostly when people "fail" to see us but today is the craziest experience I've had.

Was cruising through town and saw a car pulling to the exit to get back onto the road and I swear I made eye contact with the driver of the vehicle exiting, was an older gentleman so I figured he had seen me. No sooner than looking at him did he pull out in front of me with the smallest gap possible but luckily was only going 30 and had time to emergency brake and miss the side of his vehicle by about a foot. Only had the bike for about 2 weeks so happy I didn't crash when quickly stopping, but why does it seem like some people are just out to kill us?
