Question about the X event's ++

(I feel like I'm going to get massively downvoted for this just because of retaliate)

Can anyone tell me if Yojimbo's Wakizashi (all) bypasses retaliate or if it works like Ultimate Beatrix's AoEs? I was planning to run a 5-retaliate party with as many samurai skills I could fit in for the fight for a samurai themed party (also planning to go 5-white mage with only white magic abilities on the boss rush! Yay for thematic approaches!) but that can become rather difficult to pull out if Wakizashi bypasses it due to the medals I'm already going to lose by going in without Yuna.
