College grad and STILL haven't found a career, just diagnosed last year. Job Help??
We all know how the pre-medication story goes for ADHD, so I'll spare you. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't diagnosed until after college. This left me feeling like I never really got the chance to focus solely on one passion that would put me on a salaried job I actually wanted (as many refer to it, their 'dream job').
I have found that food service has always served me best with past jobs due to the fast pace, like-minded people, and because the fat kid in me will always love cooking and baking. I have never held a 'high paying' or 'desired' job, despite having my bachelor's degree for the sole fact that 99% of them that I come across seem like they require specific knowledge or are flat out deathly boring to more active individuals like ourselves (office jobs, single-task oriented, etc).
However, I have a hefty amount of student loans, bills, and want to start a family. None of this is going to happen if I am working for only a couple bucks above minimum wage. A big point for me is that I need a job where I can move freely between tasks, be a little active, be semi social, use creative thinking, truly help others, maybe use my love for things like baking, or other arts. Just have never come across a job opening that has really fit for me.
It's been a huge year of transformation for me since I was diagnosed; I make my bed now daily for the first year in my life, put away my clothes, and have actually been paying attention to my finances which has brought me here. Do you guys know where to even begin looking for jobs like these? Or what career path I should maybe even be looking towards? Please help, r/ADHD?
TL;DR: Wasn't diagnosed until after college, feel like I squandered my years and need a real job. Mostly food service background, but it doesn't pay enough and I'm too creative/energetic for a 'normal' job. Need direction, please.
