Thorogood moc toe fit

I just got a pair of Thorogood moc toe boots and I'm a little concerned about the fit. These are 8.5EE I get these weirdish dimples on the side and I'm wondering if that is indicative of bad fit. I tried a half size smaller first 8EE. While the length was good, it felt a tiny bit narrow (I have very flat feet) so I went up a half size.
