5 W's (Only 3, whoops)
What?: PSU is warm / hot to the touch under regular (Internet browsing) loads and while gaming.
When?: This problem had surfaced just recently when participating in The Divisions Closed Beta. GPU and CPU temps are fine as expected (Around 50 - 60 mark for each). After some time (2 hours or so of said gaming) the power supply would overheat and shut off... With a very distinct but not loud ticking noise when hard rebooting on its own. Same thing will happen at a much slower pace if PC is left at idle (Typically 4-5 hours before the shut-off)
I've discontinued prolonged use until I get a solid answer as to whether or not I should use it. Small amounts of gaming and less demanding games for the foreseeable future.
Why?: As of right now, not too sure, might be reaching peak output from it with the xtreme 980ti in the system currently, but I was running 2 770 Classifieds in SLI prior to the upgrade.
List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.
Seeing as the warranty is up, and even if it wasn't up, I don't have the boxes to return it for inspection. SO on that note, I have thought of rewiring the internal fan onto the motherboard to see if this would "fix" the problem.
Post relevant photos of build/parts here.
No good photos at this time to post (Low light, night time atm)
Provide any additional details you wish below.
I guess I am just wondering if it is safe to carry on with using this PSU IF it is any good for smaller builds... or getting rid of it all together?
