How is the quality on new marlins lever actions?

How is the quality on new production marlins XLR 45-70 govt? I have heard that the quality on them a few years back was horrible. it is a thousand dollar gun in Canada and i need to know if its worth the money. On a second thought what other lever action rifles would you guys recommend? I would prefer something in 45-70.
