Follower gear?

So my followers are basically just there to absorb dmg. Unity+trinkets that prevent death. Templar minor usefulness in heal, scoundrel with dmg buff and enchantress with some crowd control. But is there a gear option? Meaning what are some very useful items to toss on my followers to see some more utility?
