Can we campaign against harcdcoded 16:9 black bars in videos?

I'm talking about videos like this, where (apart from the title card), all of the content has black bars added to make it 16:9 - Netflix does it too!

I know there's an extension that can bodge it, but only on chrome. We need to do something!
