The purchasing system has me lost

Ive tried customizing a Thor build but get lost in items.

Ive had several people tell me about relics but i havent noticed anything in-game called a relic.

Im getting constantly smashed in arena and am doin little to no damage doesn't matter which character i use.

I really just want to copy a solid build so i have an idea about how to lvl in game.
