ELI5: How dreams and ideas dies in premature stage?

This question is about dreams, desires, ideas.. How those things gets killed? I can think of like, lack of interests of agent itself, lack better surrounding to grow them, lack of opportunities, de-motivation, or unaware about worthiness of those ideas. What you have to say? How they dies?
