[EVENT] The Emergency Presidential Act of 2018
With his announcement of massive budget changes, some debate has erupted within the Assembly of the Republic on whether the President is overstepping his bounds. With the Judiciary making no comment but silently showing support for the President and his cabinet, and as PARNIMO currently hold the majority of seats in the senate (just over 65%), it is not expected to inhibit the President's ability to act. Regardless, this morning a new act was put forth by the nation's leader.
Under the Emergency Presidential Act, or EPA, the President would have vastly increased powers for the next two years, after which the act can be re-affirmed. President Esperança has stated that the act is necessary in the process of strengthening the nation.
Newfound powers include the ability to pass laws without the Assembly being involved at all. It also officially places the power over budget in the hands of the President.
With a majority in the Assembly, the bill is expected to pass.
