ENT: Shuttlepod One plot hole?

Malcolm and Trip are stuck in a shuttlepod with very limited air. They have at least one phase pistol.

I assume that a person hit with the stun setting would consume far less oxygen than a conscious, talking person. They wouldn't feel the uncomfortable cold (they rerouted power from life support) either.

Yet neither the chief engineer nor the armory officer thought to stun themselves?
