Wanting to be single just because I want to be more independent.

Hey bros. Throwaway because my SO knows my real reddit account.

I've been with my SO for about 2 years now. We've been dating since we were freshman in college, and we're juniors now. We have had some great times together, but we've also had our fair share of fights that we were always able to resolve.

I don't want to say I am falling out of love with him, but I am just growing tired of being in a relationship after being in one for so long. Not being able to do certain things because it makes him unhappy (e.g. going out whenever I want) and forcing time into my schedule to hangout even when I'm incredibly busy with school work. I know it seems like I'm saying that I am not willing to make the time sacrifices for my relationship, but my education is really important to me.

But more so than anything, I just miss being independent. I haven't really been single since I was a junior in high school, and I don't remember what it's like to have that single life. I am in no rush in having a committed LTR because I'm 21. I have so much time ahead of me. But as of right now, I feel like I am practically married and it's terrifying. I love the feeling of having someone, but I miss the feeling of being independent more.

Is this a reasonable way to break it off with someone? I have no idea how to even do it or what to say. He is perfectly content with the relationship (besides me not always having time to hang out).
