Wrong to ask for open trades...even though I decline most?

Discussion

Just wondering what you guys think.
I'm not really looking for much specifically right now, but I still enjoy trading...so I've been listing so in the fan feed. Thing is, is I decline 90'ish+% of the offers given to me. I'm starting to feel a bit like an a-hole haha. Sometimes I'll explain to the person why I'm declining...but that gets too time consuming.
It is fun sometimes though, cause sometimes I'll get an oddball offer that excites me! So I have gotten some great cards by doing this as well.
Am I an a-hole for telling people I'm open to all offers...even though I know full well I'm probably going to decline almost all of the offers given? Am I wasting people's time and effort?

I should go back to bed lols...I'm too tired and it's making me self-conscious! xP

As a member of the 90% you have rejected, I'll give you my perspective. I make a genuine effort to pour through each trading partners collection in an effort to offer them something I think they will desire. When a trader doesn't specify any wants it makes this process much more difficult and time consuming. So when I do encounter a trader who rejects almost all reasonable offers, I pass over his posts in the future. No hard feelings, just not interested in wasting time

In fact, I have a mental list of about 20 traders who post often who I just find too difficult to deal with so don't even bother initiating a trade

...am I on that list?? lol :(

In all honesty, and you did in fact ask, yes I regret to admit you are. Nothing personal and I harbor no ill feelings. I certainly don't feel like you did anything wrong or unethical, just felt like I was spinning my wheels. If your trading strategy works for you, by all means, continue. But seeing as you were asking for feedback, I thought you might like to know that it could limit some of your options down the road. Cheers! 😀

Thanks again for the honesty! No ill feelings here on my end. I genuinely appreciate it :).
I'm moving on from blind trades for now haha...I had my fun with it. Time to move on to more productive things! :D
I hope you have a good day!

Here's the stupid thing about me...I don't even know what I want and the longer I look for blind trades the more greedy I get. I really do need to take a break from it, because I really am starting to become an a-hole. /sigh
When I step back and look at it from the other person's perspective...damn straight I'd feel annoyed by me.
Thank you for your honesty here :D I really do appreciate it!
I think it's time I go find a new set to try and collect so I have something to focus on in app. This wandering around blindly and obliviously is doing me...nor anyone else...any good!

I'm glad you took it in the spirit it was intended. I know exactly what you are talking about. I've struggled lately to find something I want to trade for that isn't worth $50 lol. Just decided to leap into tpm as I did enjoy building Jttfa

It's not your fault you're bent sent lousy deals.

The open trading is tough because it's just throwing stuff at the wall as you can see. You'll get more mileage out of giving a range of cards, characters or a vague idea of what you're looking for.

Asking for open trades is not being a dick. "Sometimes I'll explain to the person why I'm declining...but that gets too time consuming.". That makes you a dick. You're saying your time is more valuable than other people's and that it's ok to waste their time but not for them to waste yours.

Fair point.

It's fine for you to do this, although I generally avoid traders such as yourself as it's obvious they're fishing for a good deal/overpay.

I've been doing the same tbf with these gold hoarders most of the time.

I don't mind this personally though j feel guilty sometimes.

I think it's ok to do this as long as you don't say you're accepting any offer.

Thing is that when asking for open trades you make it hard for other people to guess what you would like, when i do something like that i just mention manga / pop needs or something similar and add a list of cards i am open to trade. Specially with ppl with high scores is hard to find something that might work for them so i end up trying to figure out hey .. this might get their attention, or this might be an overpay but good trade If i dont get an answer its kind of annoying, at least a no, not looking for that etc.

I do do this, though my list of wants is admittedly pretty short.

Been there as well, I have seen that if you don't specify at least a decent amount of sets you will get off the wall offers An a bunch of unwanted stuff like Bad Feelings, Path to the dark, Modern, etc. is just frustrating when you look at 200 inserts, figure out something you want and something they need, then not get an answer. Lately i have gone days without posting just fishing for something i might like on the feed

I think my solution is to find a new set to try and collect :). Then I have something specific to focus on lol.

It's better than the traders who post "Looking for X" then when I send them X they counter asking for 9 BB-8s or Bikini Leias for my one Snap Wexley. Uh, no. (Those jerks are why I've had to lock so many non-hoard cards.)
